Community Ambassador Program to continue

The Community Ambassador Program was a pilot project that began last year that aimed to relieve some of the racial tensions that stemmed from incidents on the T-Third line.
The city is making the Community Ambassadors Program a permanent fixture in the southeast sector, Mayor Ed Lee announced today. The program, which underwent a year-long test run that ended in June, employs a 12-member team of multi-ethnic "ambassadors" who assist residents in a total of eight languages.

The program was initiated by community leaders concerned about public safety. It is operated by the city's Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs, which also enforces the city's language access policy.
