Local hires demanded for S.F. school project

The new Willie Brown Jr. Middle School in the Bayview District is scheduled to open in 2015, with construction starting within the next six months. The project has been controversial, with local residents demanding access to jobs on the project. Unlike the city of San Francisco, the district does not have a local-hire requirement that would guarantee jobs for local companies or city residents. Photo: -, SF Unified School District
A group of San Francisco residents is threatening to shut down construction on the new Willie L. Brown, Jr. Middle School when work begins later this year unless the school district agrees to hire neighborhood residents.
