You drive past the portal with the lettering that would look at home on a too-long-syndicated sitcom. The pale stucco houses, attached, come with two-car garages nosing to the street. Sidewalks are conspicuous mostly by their absence.
In San Francisco? You bet: Silverview Terrace, which stands above the Bayview on Mt. St. Joseph and in the 1980s replaced a brick orphanage from 1910 with a slice of suburbia that would look at home in Novato or Clayton or Sunnyvale. “We’re pretty boring,” one long-time resident says happily. “This is it, buddy.”
