According to the SFPD, the number of murders in the Bayview Police District was eleven (11) in 2011. That is the lowest number since the year 2000. During most of the past decade we averaged twenty-five (25) murders per year. In 2009 there were thirteen (13) and in 2010 there were fourteen (14). They also report that Bayview Station police officers lead the City in confiscating firearms, most with arrests and many with suspects who are on probation, parole or have lengthy criminal records. Ten (10) guns were confiscated in the month of December with most of those resulting in arrests.

On December 31st at 3:00 pm, a 44 year old male victim approached the counter at Bayview Station and reported that he had been robbed at Mendell Plaza. He stated that on December 29th he was inside the community garden at Mendell Plaza, in the area of 3rd and Palou, while setting up a projection display which involved a laptop. The victim stated that the suspect walked up to the display, shut the laptop and pulled all the wires from it. He then ran west from Mendell Plaza. As the victim chased the suspect, another subject in the area intentionally tripped him, causing him to fall. He then lost sight of the suspect. This incident is under investigation. On December 30th at 6:45 am, officers were investigating a malicious mischief complaint when they got a lead that the suspect in the incident might be currently parked at the Farmers Market on Alemany and Bayshore. They responded to the area and quickly located the suspect seated in his pick up truck. After refusing to exit the car several times, he finally succumbed to their demands and exited the vehicle. A record check showed that he had an outstanding $10,000 warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 111041046)

On December 30th at 3:00 pm, officers responded to the MUNI lightrail on 3rd St. regarding an assault. Officers found the 13 year old victim on the T-Line at 3rd and Evans. He told them that he and his cousin had been skateboarding in the area of 3rd and Oakdale. The victim stated that he fell from the board and five juvenile subjects, who were in the area, began laughing at him. The victim stated that he yelled at the group to stop laughing and then got on the bus with his cousin to get away from them. All five suspects followed the two onto the T-Line where one of the suspects kicked the victim in the face. The suspects then got off the bus and fled.
The victim was provided medical treatment for his injuries and his guardian was notified and responded. The officers searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate them that day. (SFPD Case No. 111041355)

On December 30th at 5:00, plainclothes officers were in the area of Kiska and Reardon when they saw a group of subjects hanging out on the corner. One of the officers recognized one of the suspects from a crime bulletin they had received earlier that day that showed still shots of two separate suspects in a MUNI robbery that had occurred on December 5th. The officers had already located the first suspect earlier that day at 3rd and Palou and had arrested him for the robbery. Now the second suspect in that incident appeared to be hanging out with this group.
The officers approached the suspect they recognized from the surveillance photos and detained him. During the cursory search for weapons, the suspect tensed up. The suspect rolled his shoulders forward and attempted to get away from the officer. With the assistance of another officer, the suspect was adequately controlled and a thorough search was conducted. Inside the suspect’s waistband was a loaded .38 caliber handgun. The gun was seized and the suspect was placed under arrest for the possession of a loaded firearm. All of the other subjects he was hanging out with were identified and released from the scene. An investigation into his involvement in the MUNI robbery is ongoing. (SFPD Case No. 111042323)

On December 30th at 10:40 pm, officers responded to SFGH regarding a gunshot victim who was brought into the hospital by his brother. They met with the 21 year old victim who told them that he was standing in front of his home at 3rd and Kirkwood when a green Chevy Camaro pulled up next to him and the driver got out. The victim stated that the driver wanted to fight him but the victim refused and turned away. At this point, the victim stated that he felt a gunshot to his left side. The victim is expected to recover from his non life threatening injuries.
Officers responded to the 1500 block of Kirkwood, the scene of the incident, and located the victim’s brother and the car the victim was driven to the hospital in. They also located blood at the crime scene which they preserved. Upon further inspection of the crime scene the officers followed the blood trail to the rear of the building where they located a loaded .40 caliber handgun inside a sock, a shotgun rifle barrel, and a small cardboard box containing 6 individual baggies of crack cocaine. Crime scene Investigation responded and seized all evidence on the scene. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 111043224)

On December 31st at 1:00 am, officers responded to the unit block of Osceola regarding a call of a disturbance. They met with a visually shaken 30 year old victim who told them that she had just been pistol whipped by her brother. She stated that she was watching television in her room when her brother came home intoxicated, ranting and raving. The victim could not understand what he was so upset about. The suspect went into the victim’s room, strangled her and threw her to the floor. He then brandished a gun at her and threatened to kill her before hitting her on the head with the butt of the weapon. The victim’s 12 year old son came into the room and tried to push the suspect away from his mother, at which point the suspect punched the boy in the face. The suspect then ran from the house.

Paramedics responded to the scene and treated both victims for their injuries. The suspect was identified to the officers by full true name and description. Officers searched the area but could not locate the suspect that day. A warrant for his arrest is pending. (SFPD Case No. 111043440)

On December 31st at 1:30 pm, officers in the area of 3rd and Palou observed a suspect drinking from a can of beer while sitting on the MUNI platform in the area. They detained him and performed a record check which revealed that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for his arrest with a bail amount of $20,000 for theft related crimes. He was taken into custody and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110015248)

On December 31st at 1:30 pm, officers in the area of 3rd and Palou saw a suspect in the area that they recognized from a crime bulletin as having a warrant for his arrest. They detained the suspect and confirmed that he did in fact have a no bail warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody and booked. (SFPD Case No. 111024315)

On December 31st at 7:15 pm, housing officers were on the 100 block of Cameron when they spotted a subject who they knew had an active arrest warrant. They took him into custody without incident and booked him at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 111045195)

On December 31st at 8:20 pm, housing officers were in the area of Cameron Way and Double Rock when they saw a subject standing in the middle of the road, obviously intoxicated, swaying back and forth. They contacted the suspect who had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and detained him for being drunk in public. He was transported to Bayview Station where a booking search was conducted. The officers found a crack rock along with glass smoking pipe in the suspect’s pants pocket. The charges were added and he was booked for possession of cocaine base and being under the influence in public. (SFPD Case No. 111045327)

On December 31st, at 11:43 pm, officers responded to the area of San Bruno and Paul on a vandalism complaint. They met with the victim who stated that the suspect had just slashed the victim’s tire. The victim confronted the suspect and threatened to call the police. The suspect replied, “Go ahead!” then fled the scene.

The victim described the suspect and pointed in the general location where he took off running. The officers searched the area and found a suspect matching the description sitting on a duffle bag on the unit block of Dwight. A search for weapons revealed a knife in his pants pocket. The victim positively identified the suspect and stated that he had no idea why the suspect would want to flatten his tire. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview Station. On January 1st at 12:20 am, officers responded to the 200 block of Bayview Circle regarding a shots fired call. They met with the resident who stated that he was on his back porch when he heard something land on it. On closer inspection, he found one spent round and called the police. The officers seized the bullet as evidence and searched the area for any injuries or damage. They found none. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 120000148)

On January 1st at 12:14 pm, officers responded to a chain store in the area of 3rd and Williams regarding a robbery. On arrival, they met with the loss prevention officer who told them that he observed a group of 3 female suspects walking up and down the aisles, selecting certain items, and then concealing them. As the suspects passed all the cash registers without attempting to pay, the loss prevention officer detained them at the door and asked for them to return the items. One of the suspects grabbed his throat and pushed him out of the way for the other two to make their exit. In his tussle with the suspect, she dropped most of what she had taken. Meanwhile, a purple four door Lexus with large chrome rims pulled up and the suspect jumped into the car. It was last seen driving east on Galvez.
The loss prevention officer estimated that the trio got away with at least $30 worth of air fresheners. The officers looked for the suspects and the vehicle but were unable to locate them that afternoon. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 120007469)

On January 1st at 4:40 pm, officers patrolling in the area of 3rd and Evans saw a subject at a gas station in the area setting his items up on the ledge of the building near the cashier’s window. Due to the numerous complaints from the gas station regarding loitering and panhandling in the immediate area, the officers made contact with the subject. Upon getting closer, they observed that the items he had just placed on the ledge were an open coin purse that had crack cocaine crumbs inside of it along with a used glass smoking pipe. He was placed under arrest for possession of cocaine and narcotics paraphernalia and was booked accordingly at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 120002097)

On January 2nd at 1:45 am, officers in the area of Hawes and Gilman stopped a vehicle for having expired registration. They contacted the driver and his two passengers. The driver and one of the passengers had warrantless search conditions which were exercised at the scene. Both were clean. The third passenger had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for assault and was taken into custody. He was booked at Bayview Station. The driver was cited and released from the scene. On January 2nd at 9:30 am, a 19 year old victim was riding on the bus in the area of 3rd and Evans. He was seated in the middle of the bus and was listening to his iPod, which was in his hand. When the bus came to a stop on 3rd and Evans, a suspect approached him from the rear of the bus and forcefully grabbed the iPod as he walked past the victim. The suspect ran off the bus and was last seen running through the Bayview Plaza. The officers searched the area for the robbery suspect but could not locate him that morning. The video from the bus’s surveillance system which may have captured the crime is pending. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 120003261)

On January 2nd at 11:50 pm, officers responded to the 200 block of Blanken to assist State Park Police with a suspicious vehicle. On arrival, they met with a State officer who told them that the vehicle she had detained was involved in a vandalism on State Park property. She had seen the car drive away and located the vehicle parked on Blanken avenue with the suspect inside.
A record check revealed that the car had been reported stolen. The suspect was also on probation for vehicle theft. He was placed under arrest and taken into custody. He was booked at Bayview Station along with what appeared to be a master key to the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was notified and responded to the scene where he was reunited with his vehicle. On January 2nd at 5:10 pm, officers responded to a call of a carjacking that had occurred at 3rd and Bayshore. They located the victim who told them that he had been driving his car north on Bayshore and was stopped at a light on 3rd t. As he waited for the light to turn green, he heard tapping on his window. He turned to see a masked suspect pointing a gun at him. The victim instinctively raised his hands and the suspect opened the door and pulled him out of the vehicle. The suspect told him to just turn around and walk away and the victim complied. The victim was not injured in this incident.

Approximately 3 hours later, while still searching for the suspect and vehicle, officers found the car on the unit block of Hare St. completely ablaze. It took the San Francisco Fire Department two hours to put out the fire, which is believed to be arson. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 111024315)

On January 2nd at 8:30 pm, officers responded to a call of shots fired inside a 3rd floor unit on the 900 block of Ingerson. They detained two subjects and quickly were able to determine that there was no merit to any gun fire and that the sound that was called in had actually been made by hammering. Neither subject had any identification on their person and gave the officers names and birthdates that showed no record.
The officers left the scene and responded to the station where they did some research into the identity of the two subjects. They found that both subjects gave similar names to two subjects that came up with felony arrest warrants. The officers pulled up the mug shots of the two wanted suspects, and sure enough, they were the same two that they had dealt with earlier! With warrants in hand, the officers returned to the unit on 900 Ingerson and placed both suspects under arrest. They were both booked on each of their respective warrants for burglary related charges. (SFPD Case No. 120005035)
