Philosopher's Way

What a great afternoon today walking the newly-dedicated Philosopher's Way in John McLaren Park. Starting at the parking lot at Visitacion and Mansell Ave, the 2.7 mile walk is interspersed with historic photos placed on stone markers. The trail is well marked, but check the map at the trailhead just to be sure of where you're going. Be prepared for some amazing vistas, from Mt Diablo all the way to the Farralon Islands.

The only negative part was in crossing Mansell at the western part of the trail, where you have to step over the guardrail and then cross the road. There's no crosswalk here and traffic tends to move pretty quickly along Mansell. When crossing the westbound side of the road, you have limited visibility of the traffic coming over the hill, so again be careful.  Let's hope that as more people use the trail that this safety issue is addressed with a proper crosswalk and signage on the road alerting drivers to pedestrians.
