Bonhams Hosting Town Hall on Homeless and Encampments

Supervisor Cohen and EqualitySF at City Hall

On April 8, 2014, Supervisor Cohen stood with EqualitySF, a group of 2000 Bayview residents and business owners opposed to the proposed shelter at 2115 Jennings, on the steps of City Hall. The group talked to media about the adverse health effects of further concentrating poverty in an impoverished community like BVHP. They also provided documentation regarding environmental remediation required in order for the site to be approved for human habitation, a factor the City of SF hasn’t taken into account or acknowledged. Supervisor Cohen lauded the group for their organized and impassioned actions to date.

Homeless for the Holidays

In Mayor Ed Lee's 2013 State of the City address, he said he was "proud to support" efforts to expand services for the homeless in Bayview—specifically "Sup. Cohen's effort, aided by a federal grant — to build a new 100-bed shelter" 

The only problem: that was the first Cohen said she had heard of it. 

"My first concern was how the proposal came about," Cohen told us. "I wasn't made aware of it until it was announced."

Update: Quint Ave under the tracks

A follow-up to my post the other day about my walk to work and the homeless encampment under the tracks on Quint Ave.  I contacted Officer Matt Balzarini of the Bayview Station, and he went out to the site to let the inhabitants know that they were being evicted from under the tracks.  Wednesday, we hope to see some movement and improvement.
