On August 23rd at 3:17, Plainclothes Officers were in the area of Garlington and Commer Court. They saw five subjects who they recognized from numerous previous incidents as gang members. On of the subjects, on seeing the officers, grabbed his waist and turned his back quickly, disappearing into the building they were standing in front of.

The building contained a computer lab and the Officers were able to see him moving around throughout the room through the blinds. One of the Officers went into the building while the other stayed outside with the subjects who remained in the doorway. As soon as the Officer entered the computer room, the suspect inside walked past him and out the door. The officer looked around the room and spotted a black semi automatic .9mm sitting between some papers on a file cabinet. He also saw an iPhone sitting on a desk near the gun. There was nobody in the computer lab and the officer confirmed with the receptionist that no one but the suspect had been in the room for a while.
Unfortunately, by this time the suspect had fled the scene. The officers were determined to identify him and secured video footage of him entering the facility. The security officer that provided the surveillance footage to the Officers recognized the suspect and provided his full name and address. This incident is still under investigation. (SFPD Case No.110676577)

On August 23rd at 4:30, the “Shot Spotter” at Bayview Station indicated that shots had been fired in the area of Kirkwood and Mendell. Officers arrived on the scene to be notified by bystanders that there had in fact been a shooting between two vehicles described as a black Chevy Impala and a grey Buick Bonneville. A witness stated that someone had exited the grey car and began to shoot at the black one. Both cars drove off at a high rate of speed on Mendell toward Hudson.

The black Impala was reported to have crashed into a fire hydrant at Ceasar Chavez and 3rd before finally being located in the Northern District on the 600 block of Larch, where one of the occupants flagged down an Officer. The driver stated that he and his occupants were on driving on Mendell when the grey vehicle pulled up behind them and an occupant got out and started shooting at their car. They fled the area and were followed by the suspect. The driver hit the hydrant in his escape from the grey car, which they lost in traffic. She said that people were coming to the house at all hours and a strange clicking noise was coming from the room when they were in there. The resident wanted him out of the house along with his girlfriend. They went to go talk to the suspect who was in the room with his girlfriend. A record check revealed that he had a warrant for his arrest out of Berkley for theft related offences. He was placed under arrest.

The officers immediately noted a credit card embossing machine in the room. There was a credit card in the front tray. There was also a computer and numerous paperwork that contained people’s names and credit card numbers. These were in the form of booking conformations for various hotels through a website. With the assistance of the Financial Crimes Unit, the investigation unfolded to show that the pair had been using skimmers to obtain credit card information from a gas station that one of the suspects used to work as. They were also using hacked confirmations from a site called Booking.com to collect credit card information and names of unsuspecting people, the majority of who were out of state or abroad.

It was discovered that the suspects were using this information to emboss new credit cards that were then being used to purchase items. These items were then sold for cash to various buyers or over the internet. The serial number on the computer being used to facilitate the crimes came back as stolen property, along with several other items in the room. A total of 56 pieces of evidence were removed from the house including a magnetic skimmer, credit cards, numerous booking confirmations with credit card information, as well as gift cards. Scope of Work : ART94124 is requesting artists to submit a proposal to beautify the communication and electric service boxes that sit one the sidewalk at the corner of Oakdale and Third Street. This site has attracted unwanted attention and we hope by making the boxes visually appealing this will deter unseemly behavior.
Problem : need to deter public urination on sidewalk at the corner of Oakdale and Third Street.
There has been a longstanding issue of people urinating at the electric box on Oakdale Ave.. One idea is to use the box as canvas for an art piece. It could even be something to promote the restaurant that is coming soon to this location. Submit your ideas to info@art94124.com

SAN FRANCISCO POLICE URGE SAFETY AWARENESS
San Francisco police are urging the public to be vigilant about their safety in public, particularly when using Muni.
• While on Muni vehicles and at Muni bus stops and platforms, citizens are urged to be vigilant about their surroundings and to note any suspicious activity. While on Muni buses, be wary of persons standing especially close or jostling, which may indicate a possible pickpocket or robbery attempt. While waiting for a bus, try to be at a location where there are other persons waiting with you. If you are the only person waiting, go to another stop where there are others waiting. Be aware of pick-pockets. An old San Francisco trick to guard against pickpockets is to wrap a rubber band around your wallet and place your wallet in your pocket as the rubber will catch on your clothing. Its time tested. It will drive the crooks - pickpockets crazy. Plus you will always have a rubber band. Be alert...
• Be especially careful when using electronic devices on transit vehicles. Opportunist criminals know that a person talking on a cell phone, listening to an i-Pod, or texting, is distracted and thus an easy target. Try to avoid using any electronic device while seated or standing near the rear exit of a transit vehicle, since this door provides a quick exit for grab-and-run suspects.
• If it essential for you to use an electronic device on the street, be aware that you may be a target for theft. Opportunist criminals, sometimes operating in groups, look for people using these devices and often will approach a victim from behind, knowing that the person talking on a cell phone, texting, or using an i-Pod is distracted. Some of these criminals could be armed. Do not be so preoccupied that you become unaware of your surroundings and not notice a person or persons nearby acting suspiciously.
• Immediately report any robbery by calling 9-1-1 or 415-553-0123
