Incidents of Interest:

On November 2nd at noon, Bayview housing officers were on patrol in the area of Ingalls and Palou when they observed a moped, with two helmetless passengers, drive straight through a stop sign in the area. The officers immediately affected a traffic stop and as soon as they activated their lights, the moped pulled over and both subjects jumped off with their hands in the air. The officers observed that the moped’s ignition had been tampered with and had their suspicions confirmed when a record check revealed that the moped was stolen. The suspects, both juveniles aged 16 and 17, were arrested. One of the suspects was on juvenile probation and was booked while the other was cited and released to a parent. (SFPD Case No. 110799630)

On November 2nd at 12:30 pm, a resident of Garlington Court left her home but did not lock her front door. When she returned a half an hour later, she found her front door open and her apartment burglarized with a purse stolen from the dining room table. There was no forced entry into the apartment and it is believed to have been an opportunistic crime. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110885609)

On November 2nd at 5:45 pm, Bayview housing officers came upon a heated verbal dispute between a man and woman on the 1800 block of 23rd St. Neither party wanted to elaborate on the cause of the argument and only confirmed that it had never turned physical. A record check revealed that one of the suspects had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and was taken into custody. He was booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110886566)

On November 2nd at 8:50 pm, Bayview housing officers were on patrol in the area of Fitzgerald and Griffith when they saw a suspect that they immediately recognized. The same suspect was mentioned in their briefing earlier that day as wanted for an outstanding warrant for firearm offenses. The officers took the suspect into custody without incident and he was booked on the warrant at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110886970)

On November 3rd at 5:00 pm, officers responded to a call of a burglary at a business in the area of Burrows and San Bruno. The officers found that the door to the premise had been pried open and were told by the owner that was on the premise that a bicycle had been stolen. The burglary occurred sometime during the previous night. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110889338)
On November 3rd, officers at Bayview Station were notified by a motorcycle repairman in the area that he was in possession of a stolen Harley Davidson bike. He went on to explain that a customer offered to pay him $2500 to do some work on his bike. The repairman agreed but after weeks of not being able to contact the customer for payment, he tried to place a lien on the motorcycle. This is when he found out that the bike was stolen and contacted the police. He advised the officers that he was finally able to get a hold of the customer on this day and was promised that the bike would be picked up.

The repairman stated that the bike was in pieces in front of an address on the 1200 block of Thomas and that the suspect would be picking it up imminently.

Officers responded to the area and conducted surveillance from a position of concealment. They saw the suspect drive up in a car and attempt to place the frame of the bike in the trunk. It did not fit so the suspect put the frame back on the sidewalk and left the scene. The officers took no action and waited. Soon, the suspect returned with a friend and a flatbed tow truck. This time, they had no problem loading the bike and all of its parts. As soon as they took off, they were pulled over and the suspect was arrested. His friend turned out to have a no bail parole violation warrant for robbery. He was arrested as well. Both suspects were booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110888744)
On November 3rd at 10:30 am, an officer was driving in the area of Ingalls and Thomas when he saw a pick up truck driving in the area that matched the description of a broadcast involving a stolen vehicle earlier that day. A record check of the license plate confirmed that it was the same car. The officer pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver without incident. While searching the vehicle, the officer came upon a driver’s license, checkbook, credit cards and miscellaneous paperwork in a woman’s name. The officer was able to make contact wither and learned that all of her above mentioned property was stolen out of her car in an auto burglary that had occurred on October 29th at 5th and Mission. The charge of possession of stolen property was added to the suspect’s booking card at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110879389)

On November 3rd at 5:45 pm, an officer received a phone call from a frantic victim who stated that he had just been shot at by a suspect known to him in the area of Dakota and 25th. He said that he was in his van and was approached by a subject who wanted to get some marijuana from him. The victim said that he looked in his rearview mirror and saw the suspect approaching the van with a firearm. Believing that he was about to be robbed, the victim panicked and drove off at a high rate of speed. As he did so, he heard two shots ring out.

The victim gave the officer the name and location of the suspect. The officer received another called by a concerned citizen who witnessed the incident and stated that both the shooting suspect and the suspect that had initially approached the van both ran into an apartment on the unit block of Dakota. The officer immediately notified Bayview units who had the residence surrounded within minutes. Meanwhile, the victim returned to the scene and gave the officers a bullet fragment that he had found in the hood of his sweatshirt. Another spent round was found on the floorboard of the victim’s van.
The officers on scene successfully extracted everyone from the apartment and the victim positively identified both suspects, who had changed their clothes, from the group. They were placed under arrest. A systematic search was conducted of the interior of the apartment where both suspects hid out. Inside a kitchen cabinet, officers found a .9mm handgun. Inside the top of the stove, the officers found a loaded high capacity magazine. The denim pants and black hooded sweatshirts that both suspects were wearing during the incident were located inside the residence as well.

Both suspects were transported to Bayview Station where they were tested for gun residue before being booked on attempted murder, attempted robbery, and conspiracy among other charges. This incident is being investigated by the Gang Task Force. (SFPD Case No. 110889532). This was outstanding police work that exemplifies the work of the Bayview Police Station officers.
On November 3rd at 4:30 am, a victim came into Bayview Station and stated that she had just been shot at by her ex- boyfriend. She was uninjured but terrified. She stated that she was at home on the 1000 block of LeConte with her two 10 year old children. Everyone was asleep when the suspect entered her apartment and woke her up demanding money. He was armed with a silver handgun. The victim explained that she always kept money in the home and the suspect knew this. He was able to locate the cash in her son’s room and after retrieving it, ordered the victim down into the garage area of the apartment building where his car was parked. He ordered her inside and began to drive. Somewhere in the area of Harbor and Northridge, the suspect struck her in the head with the handgun. The victim then jumped out of the car and began to run. She heard a gunshot and saw the suspect throw the gun from the vehicle. She was able to get to a friend’s house who drove her to the Police Station. The gunshot that the victim had referred to was actually confirmed by the Stations “shot spotter” which activated at the time and place the victim reported.

Officers immediately responded to the victim’s apartment on LeConte to conduct a well being check on the children who had been sleeping during the incident. As soon as they arrived they saw the suspect’s vehicle parked in the garage of the apartment building. Fearing for the safety of the children, numerous units surrounded the area of the apartment and attempted to make contact with the suspect inside. The suspect did not initially respond but ultimately ended up heading the officers’ request to surrender and came out of the home, pretending to have been asleep the entire night. The children were unharmed inside the house. He was placed under arrest and transported to Bayview Station where a gunshot residue test was conducted on his hands.

Officers also responded to Harbor and Northridge to look for the gun that the suspect was seen throwing out of his vehicle by the victim. The .45 caliber revolver was located on the ground in the area and was seized as evidence of the crime. The victim positively identified the gun as the one used on her by the suspect. It had also been reported stolen out of Montgomery County.
The suspect, who also happened to be a parolee, was booked on multiple charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and weapons related counts along with a parole violation. Again, this was outstanding police work. (SFPD Case No. 110887520)

SAN FRANCISCO POLICE URGE SAFETY AWARENESS
San Francisco police are urging the public to be vigilant about their safety in public, particularly when using Muni.
•    While on Muni vehicles and at Muni bus stops and platforms, citizens are urged to be vigilant about their surroundings and to note any suspicious activity. While on Muni buses, be wary of persons standing especially close or jostling, which may indicate a possible pickpocket or robbery attempt. While waiting for a bus, try to be at a location where there are other persons waiting with you. If you are the only person waiting, go to another stop where there are others waiting. Be aware of pick-pockets. An old San Francisco trick to guard against pickpockets is to wrap a rubber band around your wallet and place your wallet in your pocket as the rubber will catch on your clothing. Its time tested. It will drive the crooks - pickpockets crazy. Plus you will always have a rubber band. Be alert...
•    Be especially careful when using electronic devices on transit vehicles. Opportunist criminals know that a person talking on a cell phone, listening to an I-Pod, or texting, is distracted and thus an easy target. Try to avoid using any electronic device while seated or standing near the rear exit of a transit vehicle, since this door provides a quick exit for grab-and-run suspects.
•    If it essential for you to use an electronic device on the street, be aware that you may be a target for theft. Opportunist criminals, sometimes operating in groups, look for people using these devices and often will approach a victim from behind, knowing that the person talking on a cell phone, texting, or using an i-Pod is distracted. Some of these criminals could be armed. Do not be so preoccupied that you become unaware of your surroundings and not notice a person or persons nearby acting suspiciously.
•    Immediately report any robbery by calling 9-1-1 or 415-553-0123
