Bayview SFPD Midweek Recap

On November 12th at noon, a resident in the area of DeHaro and 18th left his bicycle in his garage. Also in his garage was an unlocked car with a video camera and binoculars inside. When he returned to his garage at noon the following day, he found that the bicycle was stolen along with the items inside the vehicle. Although his garage door was still secure, he noticed that the rear door leading from the garage to the backyard had been left unlocked. The responding officers did not find any damage to the door or vehicle. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 1109189993)

On November 13th at 4:00 pm, officers responded to a locked construction site on the 1300 block of Cesar Chavez regarding a call of a subject attempting to steal copper from the vicinity. Officers arrived to find a suspect lying on the sidewalk on his stomach with his arms stretched out underneath the fence line. As the officers approached, they observed that the suspect was pulling a red electrical extension cord out from inside the site. They also saw a yellow electrical extension cord lying on the ground outside of the fence. They detained the suspect and searched him for weapons, finding a wire cutter in his pocket.

The original caller, a security guard, met with police and positively identified the suspect. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110916232)

On November 13th at 6:12 pm, officers patrolling in the area of Thornton and Scotia observed a suspect riding his bicycle on the sidewalk, which is a violation of the traffic code. They stopped the suspect and quickly determined that he was on felony probation for drugs with a search condition and also on parole. They searched the suspect and found two bottles containing 15 illegal pills and 40 codeine pills. The names on the two prescription bottles were scratched off and the suspect admitted that the drugs had not been prescribed to him. He was placed under arrest and transported to Bayview Station where he was booked for the narcotics charges as well as violations of his probation and parole. (SFPD Case No. 110916442)

On November 14th at 6:20 am, officers responded to the area of Palou and Newhall regarding a robbery attempt that had just occurred. They met with the victim who told them that he was standing outside his home talking on his cell phone when he was approached by two suspects who demanded money from him. The victim told the suspects that he had none, at which point one of the suspects brandished a knife at him and told him to give up his phone. The victim refused and when the suspect tried to hit him and grab the phone away, the victim managed to escape with his phone. At this point, both suspects fled toward 3rd St.

Officers who responded to the area noticed two suspects who matched the broadcast description in the area of 3rd and Palou. They detained both and conducted a viewing with the victim. The victim positively identified the suspect that he said came at him with the knife. The officers placed the suspect under arrest and in searching his belongings, found a folding knife in his backpack. The second suspect, who the victim could not identify, was identified and released from the scene. (SFPD Case No. 110917315)

On November 14th at 4:00 pm, officers responded to the area of 17th and Vermont regarding a suspect setting fires. The officers arrived to find two small grass fires and a witness who stated that the suspect set the fires then jumped the fence and fled north on San Bruno toward 16th. SFFD arrived and put out the grass fires and the officers searched the area for the suspect. Unfortunately they were unable to locate him that afternoon. (SFPD Case No. 110919032)

On November 14th, a resident in the area of 19th and 3rd locked and secured his home prior to leaving. On his return at noon, he observed that the front door had been damaged. Though no entry was made by the suspect, the responding officers confirmed that the front door had in fact been pried. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110918943)

On November 14th between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm, a home on the 700 block of Kansas was burglarized. Two laptops and a jewelry box were stolen from two bedrooms in the home. The officers' investigation revealed no sign of forced entry. The victim stated that she believed that the rear glass door was accidentally left unlocked. This incident is under investigation. On November 14th, after weeks of investigative work that finally yielded a cell phone number of a local drug dealer, a plainclothes officer pretending to be a client sent the dealer a text message. This particular suspect dealt in pharmaceutical drugs, so our officer inquired into the cost of purchasing some "P's" (street name for oxycontin). He received a text back shortly that advised him that the dealer was out of "P's", but could provide 100 "vics" (street name for vicodin) for $200. The deal was made and an agreement was made to meet at a liquor store on the corner of Cortland and Bayshore. The officers responded to the area and set up surveillance there.

At 9:20 pm, the officer received a call from the female suspect stating that she was in the area and inquiring where he was in relation. While still on the phone with the suspect, the officer saw her approaching his location. She was detained and her cell phone was checked, making sure that the number she had texted and called were in fact the officer's. She was placed under arrest and a search of her person revealed the 100 vicodin tablets wrapped in a plastic bag. She was transported to Bayview Station and booked on several drug related charges. On November 15th at 7:30 am, officers responded to the 1700 block of LaSalle regarding a hot prowl burglary. They met with victim who stated that he had come out of his shower and saw a female suspect exiting his bedroom carrying a bag. The suspect walked out the front door.

The victim asked his 4 year old daughter, who was at home at the time, what had happened. The little girl stated that she was looking out the front window and saw the suspect on the sidewalk. The suspect offered her candy if she opened the front door for her. The child agreed and opened the door to the house. The suspect immediately walked to the bedroom where she took some clothing from a drawer and some money and a cell phone that were on the bed.

The victim stated that he was able to follow the suspect to 3rd and Lasalle, where she boarded the T-Line southbound. He then went home to call the police. The officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate her that morning. (SFPD Case No. 110920415)

On November 15th at 11:00 am, an officer in the area of San Bruno and Bacon was hailed by an employee of a grocery store in the area regarding a shoplifter. The employee stated that the suspect had walked into the store carrying a duffel bag and was currently stuffing it with items from the store. The officer watched through the front glass as the suspect went from isle to isle selecting food items and putting them into the bag. The officer then watched as the suspect passed the cash registers and walked out of the store. The officer stopped him and asked if he was planning on paying for those items in his bag. The suspect replied that he was not paying for anything and began to walk away. The officer attempted to stop the suspect, who resisted his efforts. After a brief scuffle, the suspect was ultimately taken into custody. He was transported to and booked at Bayview Station. The stolen items were returned to the store. (SFPD Case No. 110920904)

On November 15th at 8:50 pm, a resident of the 100 block of Tocoloma was at home with his girlfriend and another friend when they heard the doorbell. He approached the door and could hear the subject on the other side say, "pizza delivery". The victim opened the door to advise the subject that he had not ordered a pizza when he was suddenly confronted with a gun wielding suspect who tried to make entry into the house. The quick thinking victim managed to kick the door closed in the suspect's face and immediately called the police as the suspect fled the scene. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect that night. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110922706)

On November 15th at 9:00 pm, a suspect living in the area of Arkansas and Madera was arrested for threatening to kill his upstairs neighbors. Police responded to the calls made by both parties in the incident. They spoke to the suspect who belligerently yelled that he was tired of his upstairs neighbors harassing his family. They also spoke with the neighbors. They were a couple that had just returned home when their dog became excited in greeting them. As this was happening, they heard the suspect yelling at them through the floor that he was going to kill them both. Their roommate also heard the threats and was threatened himself when he attempted to confront the suspect. All of the victims believed the threats to be credible and feared for their safety. After the suspect was booked on three counts of threats charges at Bayview Station, the officers obtained an emergency protective order against the suspect to prevent him from returning to the residence. On November 16th at 1:00 am, a resident of the 1000 block of Hollister came home with her cousin to find a friend of theirs inside her house. The subject had no permission to be there and the victim believed that he may have been on drugs. An argument ensued between the victim and the suspect about his being in the home without her permission. The suspect pulled out a knife, pointed it at the victim and threatened to blow up the house. The victim's cousin was able to successfully grab the suspect from behind and get him to drop the knife. At this point, the suspect ran to the back of the house and escaped through a previously broken window. Nobody was injured as a result of the incident and the police were not called until approximately 45 minutes later when the victim discovered a burning chair directly outside the front of her house. The victim's cousin came outside to put the fire out and saw the suspect running from the scene. He attempted to chase him but lost him in the area. The responding officers also looked for the suspect but were unable to locate him. The suspect was however, identified. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110923055)
