Another boat dumped off the shores of D10

Reminds me of the houseboat that was dumped and left to sink off the shores of India basin a year-and-a-half ago.

Boat near Candlestick stuck in muck - and bureaucracy 

A boat that sits half-sunk off the coast of Candlestick Point State Recreation Area in San Francisco is stuck in more than just sand and rocks - it's caught in a quagmire of bureaucracy.

The 20-foot cabin cruiser has been gathering rust for weeks, serving as nothing more than an eyesore and seagull rest stop.

Candlestick Point wetland reclaimed as key habitat

The newest restored wetland in San Francisco was little more than a mound of mud surrounded by water Tuesday, but the messy quagmire was like gold to Elizabeth Goldstein.

The executive director of the California State Parks Foundation stood ankle deep in sticky wet clay at Yosemite Slough and called to everyone around, "Look, over your head - a red-tailed hawk being chased by a crow!"

The 7-acre site at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area was officially reclaimed as a wetland by the incoming high tide Tuesday, and the hawk and crow were the first wildlife visitors.

Candlestick Point Cleanup Day

Right now, California State Parks face unprecedented budget cuts and closures. In response, the California State Parks Foundation continues to expand our Park Champions Program. This program provides consistent, sustainable volunteer support in the area of park improvements. Partnering with California State Parks and Volunteers for Outdoor California, CSPF will hold their third work day at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area. The day will focus on the spreading of woodchips around the community garden boxes, and other improvements. The day is planned for Wednesday, September 21st, 9am – 1pm. If you are interested in making a difference at Candlestick Point, please register at calparks.org/parkchampions and click on the Candlestick Point State Recreation Area link. Once registered, you will be sent a confirmation email with other details. This registration is also important so we can accurately plan for the day.  Hope to see you there

SF supervisors OK Candlestick area growth plan

The Board of Supervisors gave a unanimous OK on Tuesday to a plan to put 1,600 new condominiums and apartments in a triangular area tucked between Candlestick Park and Highway 101.

Plans call for the 70-acre site, now mostly parking lots and temporary office space, to be turned into a residential community that could eventually have more than 2,800 residential units in a number of towers, some up to 240 feet tall.

A patchwork of condominiums already has been built and will remain on the site.

A New Name Is Needed As Executive Park Nears Being Reborn

Approved by the Planning Commission, the plan to raze and redevelop the central office components of the 70-acre site adjacent to Candlestick Point with 1,600 housing units and 70,000 square feet of retail with buildings rising up to 240 feet tall is back in front of San Francisco’s Land Use and Economic Development Committee this afternoon to vote on the amendments to make it so.

With the development currently dubbed "Executive Park," as a plugged-in tipster writes: "Since the project will become mixed use, it could use a new name." That it could. And we know just who to ask.

A Hulluva Find - SFGate

When engineers working near Candlestick Park last March drilled deep into the ground for soil samples, they pulled up chunks of wood and figured it was an old pier.

They had no idea it was a century-old ship, let alone two.

But that became clear this week when the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission uncovered what maritime experts believe are a pair of scow schooners, 90-foot-long workhorse vessels that plied the bay shallows in the late 1800s to deliver hay, salt, bricks, pork, coal, lumber and other cargo. Buried under more than 14 feet of sand and fill dirt, the 45-foot-long hull sections came to light at the mouth of an enormous trench that will house a new overflow sewage pipe for the Visitacion Valley neighborhood.

Park Champions at Candlestick Point this Saturday

Our first Park Champions volunteer work day for Candlestick Point will be this Saturday, December 11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.! Please consider volunteering, as there is a lot of work to be done.

Due to recent flooding, your help is needed to create a drainage trench around the main office so flooring can be replaced. Volunteers will also be used to do some much needed tree trimming around the park. On-site training will be provided, as well as coffee, water, snacks and FUN! Please bring a water bottle and work gloves. To register, go to our website and choose Candlestick Point SRA from the park list.
