SFHDC Bayview Town Center Proposal

While this proposal has been around for a while, now that the T-Third MUNI is active, housing is being built and occupied along the corridor, and we now have a bona fide grocery store, there's been a renewal in discussion of reactivating the Bayview Town Center plan.  This information below is taken from a presentation given to me by Katherine Williams of SFHDC.

CAPTAIN'S MESSAGE:

We are pleased to announce that Bayview Officers in conjunction with Violence Reduction Team Officers arrested a suspect in the September 20, 2011 shooting of a five (5) year old girl at 3^rd and Palou Streets.

In the incident the victim was walking home from school with her sister and father. Gunfire erupted and the victim was struck with a single non-life threatening bullet to her leg.

Through investigative leads, video surveillance and community assistance, the Police Department was able to identify a suspect.

This arrest was made yesterday at 4:00 pm at Kirkwood and Mendell. A number of individuals ran from the officers but were captured, including the suspect wanted in the shooting. The officers also confiscated a loaded semi-automatic pistol in conjunction with the arrest.

Bayview officers have been searching for the suspect in the shooting since September 20^th. This arrest was the culmination of excellent investigative work.

The suspect's name is being withheld due to the fact that he is a juvenile. Taken into custody was a 16 year old male who is a San Francisco resident. He was booked for three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, inflicting great bodily injury in the commission of a felony, carrying a loaded firearm, inflicting great bodily injury on a victim five years old or younger and possessing a firearm concealable without registration. The suspect was booked at the Juvenile Justice Center.

We are committed to bring to justice individuals who commit violence in the Bayview community and to remove firearms from the streets.

That work shall continue.

Chalk-writer of Dogpatch

A walk on Third St is always interesting. I do it every day from the Bayview to Mission Bay, and always see something new. A few months ago, I started seeing messages on the sidewalk written in chalk, but today was my first time seeing the author at work near Third and 24th.

Bayview Third Street revitalization has way to go

When Bayview merchant Marvin Robinson hears about the millions of dollars San Francisco is investing in Parkmerced, Treasure Island and Hunters Point, or the special Twitter tax break for Mid-Market, he gets a little frustrated.

Stepping out the front door of his small business at the corner of Third Street and Palou Avenue, he sees vacant stores with barred windows to his right and corner boys slinging drugs to his left. And he says he doesn't see the city doing much about it.

Third Street Banners are Now Up Along Third Street!

From the Bayview Merchants Association,

Last year, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency awarded the Bayview Merchants’ Association funding to create, print, and install Third Street banners for Bayview-Hunters Point’s Third Street corridor.  And one year later, with the support and guidance of the BVHP Project Area Committee (PAC),  BAYCAT, artists Malik Seneferu and Juan Fuentes, local printing service Yes V Can, the Third Street Corridor Project, Renaissance Bayview,  neighborhood business owners other community stakeholders on the Third Street Marketing Committee, the Third Street banners are FINALLY (partially) up along Third Street!  This is a huge victory for the Bayview Merchants Association and the entire Bayview-Hunters Point community and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in the process for helping make this project a reality.
