Potrero Hill and BVHP Democratic Club Endorsements

Potrero Hill Democratic Club

Tony Kelly won PHDC’s endorsement for District 10 Supervisor.

Bayview Hunters Point Democratic Club

1. Lynette Sweet
2. DeWitt Lacy
3. Malia Cohen

"We felt that these candidates best embraced the Club's commitment to the three issues that proved to be most important during our interviewing process: jobs, education, and the local economy. All three candidates affirmed their support for strengthening local community hiring, increasing our commitment to the district's youth, and growing local business and opportunity."

  1. Just received an e-mail from Sweet's campaign on her endorsement. Fails to mention the other two endorsed (no surprise), but one line in the e-mail really concerns me:

"As a resident of Bayview, I am thrilled that my community is supporting my candidacy and my vision for District 10 and especially Bayview."

The striking part is the last two words "especially Bayview". I would hope that any candidate for D10 is not running especially for any one geographic area of D10, and is interested in representing the needs of ALL D10's residents. Very telling.

Note: I am not a member of any other campaign, just a resident who hasn't yet made up his mind who to vote for. But, I've just narrowed my options down by one.

  2. Lynette Sweet would continue her shady politics and policies that have seen her lead BART to an $11M deficit for 2010-11 (that was miraculously erased when the state was forced to give back money to the agency, not thanks to her fiscal management). Sweet will continue to ignore minority and low-income residents just as she did with the BART-OAK connector project by ignoring Title IV of the Federal Civil Rights Act that resulted in BART losing $70M in Federal funds.

D10 has been screwed by shady politicians like Sweet in the past, and it's time we break that cycle and elect someone who is smart, creative, and finds solutions for the people of D10. That person is NOT Lynette Sweet.

Kristine Enea, who has the most financial contributions of any candidate from within the Bayview's 94124 ZIP code was completely shut out of the BVHP endorsement. She is the sole candidate beholden to the people of D10, not unions, not developers, and not from those outside D10 who likely have their own interests at heart above those of D10 residents.

  3. I've heard, but not verified independently, that the BHPDC endorsement was rendered by four people, in a club that was just reconstituted four months ago, and doesn't have more than a couple dozen members, some of which are actually D10 candidates.

    Can anyone else verify?

I wonder if Sweet, Lacy or Cohen were present at the meeting. Did they abstain from the vote, or were they among the four who rendered the endorsement?

  4. There are more than 20 paying members and more than four community members with knowledge and history from the 1920's. Each candidate has made a contribution in D10.

That's not saying much. Literally, and figuratively.

  6. The entire reply that I got to this was more complete, and I wish that it had been provided here. It wasn't off-the-record, and there was nothing salacious in it, so I think I can post it in its entirety:

"We actually have over 20 paying members and will receive the club charter after the November election. And anyone who is interested in becoming a full member must complete a request for membership form that is approved by the board. There actually 5 active community members that have knowledge and history of D10 from the 1940's on the endorsement committee. We realized it would be unfair to have any individual associated with a campaign on the endorsement committee, which is why none where present. Neither Lynette, DeWitt or Malia voted and that would be unfair, and that is not the type of image we want for the Dem Club. The club focused upon the mission, vision, local hire, education, etc."
