The 2011 Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 17, from 9 a.m. to noon! The California Coastal Commission is working hard to recruit a record-breaking 100,000 volunteers for this event and we hope that you will join us — and bring others — for this statewide effort.
Eighty percent of the trash that enters the ocean from California comes from sources on land that first reach waterways such as creeks and rivers. Our "Trash Frog" video is a reminder that keeping our inland waterways and coastlines free of trash and debris is vital to the health of our oceans and environment. So we need just as many volunteers at our inland locations as we do at the beach. With more than 800 cleanup sites, there is one near you. Please visit their website and volunteer.
Bring your own work gloves, a reusable bag or bucket and don't forget to bring drinking water (in a reusable container, please) to avoid creating additional waste during the event.
