A 5-year-old boy was struck and seriously injured by a shuttle bus while crossing a San Francisco street with his mother Thursday, San Francisco police said.
The child, who was trailing behind his mother and a sibling when the bus hit him, was rushed to the hospital, where police investigators said he was being treated for life threatening injuries.
Police said the mother, whose name was not released, and her two children were attempting to cross Third Street where it intersects with Williams Street in the Bayview shortly after 3:30 p.m. The mother crossed the street with one child, but the 5-year-old had trailed behind. The boy was hit by a private shuttle carrying one passenger as it made a right turn onto Third Street, investigators said.
Police said they are still trying to determine who is at fault. The driver, who is cooperating with the investigation, was not impaired and no citations or arrests have been made, police said. Nobody else was injured.
