On October 16th at midnight, officers responded to the area of 25th and Wisconsin regarding a call of shots fired with a suspect description. As soon as the first unit arrived on scene, they located a suspect who matched the broadcast description right down to the backpack he was carrying. The officers got out of their car and ordered the suspect to show them his hands. The suspect immediately stuck his hand inside his backpack and then threw the bag to the ground and began to run away down a steep hill. The officers gave chase. The suspect tripped and fell at the bottom of the hill. The grade was steep and both of the officers lost footing and fell as well during their pursuit of the suspect. They were able to regain their footing before the suspect could and apprehended him regardless of the injuries that they themselves sustained in the tumble. Other officers arrived on the scene and recovered the backpack discarded by the suspect. Inside they located a .357 loaded handgun along with a bag of ammunition.

The officers also located a witness who watched the incident unfold through his window. He saw the suspect standing on the street and speaking with the occupants of a white Cadillac. As the car drove away, the suspect fired a round in the direction of the car. The suspect was positively identified by the witness. He was transported to Bayview station where a gun residue test was performed on his hands prior to being booked on multiple weapons related charges. (SFPD Case No. 110833404)

On October 16th at 11:37 AM, Officers were driving west on Gilman approaching Ingalls when they observed a car with no front license plate driving in the opposite direction. The officers made a U-turn for the purpose of pulling the car over, at which point the vehicle sped up and ran a stop sign before turning onto Hawes. The vehicle turned on Hollister, again ignoring the stop sign and proceeding at a high rate of speed through two other stop signs and a red light on 3rd. By this time, officers were able to get close enough to the car to read the license plate and were advised by headquarters that the vehicle had been used in a robbery on the previous night.

The vehicle continued a reckless path along 3rd St towards Bayshore when a sharp turn at Bayshore and Hester caused the driver to lose control and crash the car into a center island, where it stalled. The officers approached the vehicle and took the driver into custody. They were shocked to see that there was a 1 year old child, the driver’s son, secured in a car seat in the rear. Nobody was injured in the accident though the child was transported to SFGH to make sure.

A record check revealed that the driver was on court ordered probation and had a search condition. A search of the vehicle revealed six ecstasy pills in the center console and marijuana in a sunglass case on the floorboard. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview station on multiple charges including the endangerment of a child. (SFPD Case No. 110834264)

She noticed that a subject got off the bus at the same time and walked in her same direction. She slowed her pace so that the suspect could walk around her, which he did. Then suddenly, he turned and sprinted back to her with a gun in his hand. He pointed it at the victim and demanded her purse, which she surrendered. The suspect fled on foot and the victim was not injured as a result of this incident.

The officer’s investigation revealed that one of the victim’s credit cards had been used approximately 45 minutes after the robbery at a gas station on the 3800 block of 3rd St. The Officers responded to that location to secure any video surveillance evidence they may have captured of the suspect. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110834656)
