Bayview District Mid-Week Recap

On October 30th at 10:00 pm, officers responded to a home in the area of Mansell and Hamilton regarding an assault. They met with the 51 year old victim who stated that she rented a room from the 65 year old suspect. The victim stated that the suspect had been acting strangely for the last few days and that it had come to a head that night. The victim told the officers that the she offered the suspect some food and he suddenly became enraged and ran into the kitchen where began to throw things around. The victim asked him what was wrong and he abruptly turned to her while holding a large kitchen knife. He lunged at the victim, threatened to kill her, and narrowly missed stabbing her in the stomach before running from the house. The victim followed and saw the suspect drop the knife on Olmstead Street as he ran toward the park. The officers searched the area and located the suspect, who was positively identified. They also located and seized the knife that the suspect used to attack the victim. He was booked at Bayview Station for assault, threats, and an outstanding warrant for his arrest. On October 31st at 7:30 am, officers responded to a residence that was under construction on the 1000 block of Tennessee on a report of a burglary. They met with a construction worker who told them that while he was going work on the home, an air compressor had been stolen from inside the open garage area. This incident is under investigation. On October 31st at 9:00 am, a 43 year old food truck operator set up his truck on the 1100 block of Hawes and began servicing customers. Shortly after, he saw three subjects approach the truck and as the customers lingered so did the suspects. The victim had a bad feeling about what was about to happen and decided to close up and move to another location. As he was doing so, one of the suspects grabbed him from the rear while another pointed a gun at him and demanded money. As the third suspect acted as the lookout, the suspect that held the victim reached into his pocket and removed his wallet. All three suspects then fled on foot. Although the victim was shaken from the incident, he was not injured. Officers searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate them that morning. This incident is under investigation. On October 31st at 5:15 pm, officers in the area of 400 Kansas saw a subject that they immediately recognized as being on felony probation with a no bail narcotics warrant. As soon as the suspect saw the officers he went back inside his home. The officers were let into the house by another resident and found the suspect standing inside his bedroom in a fighting stance with his fists clenched. As the officers attempted to take him into custody, he resisted their efforts and fell into a couch in the room where he immediately thrust both hands into the cushions. The officers were able to gain control of the suspect and handcuff him. They searched the couch and found that the suspect had placed two baggies containing methamphetamine under the cushions during the struggle. He was taken into custody and booked on numerous charges, along with his warrant at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110879878)

On October 31st at 11:00 pm, officers responded to the 1400 block of Revere on a call of shots fired. They found a 24 year old male victim bleeding from two gun shots to both legs. He was in the backseat of a vehicle of a passerby who stated that they were in the area and heard shots and saw the victim on the ground bleeding. They then loaded him into their vehicle to take him to the hospital as the officers arrived along with paramedics. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.

The responding officers secured the scene and all evidence within. They were able to obtain video evidence of the shooting taking place. This incident is being investigated by the Gang Task Force. (SFPD Case No. 110880217)

On October 31st t 10:00 pm, officers driving in the area of 3rd and Palou and observed a group of 10 people huddled around a bus stop. One of those people they immediately recognized and knew him to be on felony probation with a search condition stemming from a robbery conviction. The suspect had both hands holding his waistband and as soon as he made eye contact with the officers, he broke away from the group. He went to stand next to a garbage can and when the officers got out of the car to speak with him, he began to walk away. They successfully detained him and conducted a pat down search for weapons. Having found none, one of the officers went back to the garbage can where the suspect lingered and shined his flashlight inside. Right on top of the heap of trash was handgun and a cell phone. The gun had every piece of information normally stamped on a weapon scratched off (another felony). As they placed the suspect under arrest, they located a Halloween mask and a pair of gloves on his person. The suspect was booked on weapons charges as well as a probation violation. The gun was collected for evidence to be investigated into the possible involvement in any separate crimes. (SFPD Case No. 110880483)

On November 1st at 10:30 am, officers responded to the 500 block of 19th St. regarding a robbery. On arrival, they met with the 58 year old victim who told them that he was walking on Illinois when he noticed a sky blue Toyota Camry pull along side him. He said that two suspects got out of the car with one taking a stance behind him and the other in front. The victim stated that the suspect in front of him pointed a handgun at him and demanded the bag that the victim was holding. Fearing for his life, the victim gave up the bag and both suspects got back into the car that was driven away by the third suspect. There was a witness to the incident that corroborated the victim’s account of the incident. Officers searched the area for the vehicle and suspects but could not locate them that morning. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110881685)

On November 1st at 1:00 pm, officers responded to the 1100 block of Palou regarding a robbery that had just occurred. They met with the 39 year old victim who told them that the robbery occurred inside an apartment in the area. He stated that he met a woman several days prior that invited him to this apartment for lunch. He arrived on today’s date and as he and this woman, whose name he did not recall, were about to become intimate, the doorbell rang. The woman insisted on answering the door and left the bedroom to do so. Suddenly, three masked suspects entered the room, one pointing a gun at the victim and telling him to get on the ground. They went through his pants and took his money, phone and car keys. Then all of the suspects left the apartment. The woman who the victim claimed to have lived there was no where to be found.

As officers were on scene conducting their investigation, they learned from another resident of the apartment that no such woman lived there. Also while on scene, the officers spotted a subject watching them while on a cell phone on the roof of the building. He ducked as soon as he was detected. The officers set up a perimeter and safely detained the subject on the roof.

He stated that he lived in the apartment in question and that he was hiding because he had a warrant. His residing in the apartment where the robbery occurred was confirmed, however a record check revealed no warrant for the subject. However the victim refused to conduct a cold show with the suspect or provide any further cooperation with the police. No arrests were made and this incident is under investigation. On November 1st at 3:15 pm, plainclothes officers were patrolling in the area of 3rd and Lasalle when they saw three individuals loitering in front of a residence in the area. They stopped to ask if any of the individuals lived there to which all three replied that they did not. One of the suspects was on court ordered probation with a search condition. The officers exercised the search condition and located two individually wrapped baggies of black tar heroin in the cuff of his pants. The suspect had no paraphernalia used to ingest the heroin and had currency in denominations commonly associated with the sale of heroin. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview station on narcotics and probation violation charges. (SFPD Case No. 110882699)

On November 1st at 12:40 pm, officers responded on a call of a burglary to a store on the 6000 block of 3rd St. They met with the manager who told them that he closed the store at 4:00 pm the previous day and reopened on today’s date at 11:00 am. He immediately noticed two refrigerated beverage units tipped over in the middle of the store and a two foot by two foot hole in the wall where they used to stand. He also observed that the cash register was open and all the money was gone and that the store’s laptop was missing along with a case if cigars. The hole in the wall led to a commercial property that had been abandoned for several years and did not appear to be secure. The front gate of the abandoned property was broken and the front door was not secure. The property showed signs that squatters had been living there. The investigation revealed that the suspects cut through the wall from the abandoned building to enter the store and exited the same way, as the store alarm system failed to detect anything. The officers on scene made arrangements for the broken gate to the abandoned property to be secured. This incident is under investigation (SFPD Case No. 110882263)

On November 1st at 5:21 pm, officers responded to the area of Fitzgerald and Ingalls regarding a call of a shooting. They arrived to find a 25 year old male victim with two gunshot wounds to his chest lying on the northwest corner of the intersection. He was swiftly rendered aid and transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. Officers secured the scene and any evidence. This incident is being investigated by the Homicide Division. (SFPD Case No. 110883095)
