Candidates, this two-part question comes from a resident in the Silver Terrace neighborhood:
"Please give the name of a prominent person or organization who has contributed to your campaign, either financially or through endorsement. What do you tell us to make us confident that you will represent the interests of the voters if our interests happen to conflict with those of said prominent contributor, particularly if said prominent person or organization has in fact contributed to your campaign solely because they want to personally gain from your position as supervisor?"
Hi, I'll give this question a shot by saying that as of now, it's me and D10!
ReplyDeleteI got the most votes from the SF Democratic Women's Forum by a spread of ten over the next candidate, although the organization took a "No Endorse" position since no one got a majority of the votes. I've also been endorsed by Gerry Crowley, a former member of the DCCC, as well as several of my colleagues on the Bayview Redevelopment Project Area Committee, and everyone on the India Basin Neighborhood Ass'n board, even though our association does not endorse as an organization.
Otherwise, it's me and the voters! I've raised more money from 94124 residents than any other candidate, and am 4th overall in the district. The fundraising details are online on the Ethics Commission website, www.sfethics.org, and I'd be happy to forward a spreadsheet that shows where candidates stand on raising money from D10. The short answer is that D10 fundraising doesn't correlate with organizational endorsements. It's almost the opposite so far - those with the most organizational endorsements have raised most of their money from outside the district, outside San Francisco and in some cases, outside of California. That said, San Francisco limits contributions to $500, from individuals only. This helps minimize outside influence over the candidates no matter where their money comes from.
I can tell you that I'm proud of my reputation as an independent decisionmaker. If I'm elected, you'll be dealing with me and a network of activists within District 10. I hope this helps earn me your vote!
