A bank robber was caught in the Bayview neighborhood Sunday morning after an officer walking a foot beat recognized him.
San Francisco police apprehended and booked Earl Jason Casaclang, 32, of San Francisco for robbery of a bank and attempted street robbery.
Around 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, officers from the Bayview station responded to a bank robbery in the 2400 block of San Bruno Avenue.
According to police, witnesses say a male suspect walked up to a teller window and demanded money. The teller hesitated and the suspect threatened her by reaching under his jacket as if he had a gun, though no weapon was seen. Fearing for her life, the teller handed the man more than $1,000 and the suspect fled the bank.
On Sunday, June 19 a Bayview officer who responded to the bank robbery was walking foot patrol on San Bruno Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when he recognized a man matching the suspect description.
The officer detained Casaclang near San Bruno Avenue. He matched images obtained from bank surveillance cameras, according to police. Witnesses also positively identified Casaclang in a photo lineup.
Police say Casaclang is also a suspect in an attempted robbery on the street.
Evidence linking the suspect to the robbery was also recovered, including some of the money stolen from the bank.
