SFGreasecycle Program

Just in time for the holidays, SFWater has some great news on SFGreasecycle - their used cooking oil to biofuel program!

Throughout the holidays, most people cook and share meals with friends and family. That means a spike in leftover used cooking oil. To help minimize the amount of grease getting into our sewer system, SFGreasecycle has partnered with local retailers to enable San Francisco residents to drop off used cooking oil throughout the holiday season.

Fats, oils and grease are a serious problem for San Francisco's sewer system, clogging the sewers and costing the City more than $3.5 million each year.  SFGreasecycle is a citywide effort to divert fats, oil and grease away from the sewers and recycle them into biofuel.

Biofuel pumps offer new options...except for SF

How much space does a biofuel station require?  Is it more than a regular gas station?  It would seem to me that D10 has ample room for more biofuel stations to augment the one B100 (100% biodiesel) station we have at Dogpatch BioFuels and the other B20 (20% biodiesel) station neaby at Olympian on Third St.  Fortunately, websites like NearBio can help drivers across the country find locations where they can fill up and to plan their trip using their biodiesel trip planner.
