Have the gloves come off?

So, one thing that struck me to today at the D10 Family Forum at St. Gregory's church was that there was actually a bit of confrontation between Chris Jackson and DeWitt Lacy.

After Jackson touted his involvement in creating 75 jobs through the Solar City paid internship program and in City College's Gateway to College program, Lacy got the rebuttal and pretty much said that Jackson wasn't being honest in saying that any jobs had been created by the Solar City program, nor had the city college program actually done anything substantial, though it had the potential to do so.

With only four weeks left to election day, will we start to see the gloves coming off and candidates challenging one another on the things they're saying in their stump speeches and at the forums?

Let's see what the coming weeks bring...

  1. I was wondering about Solar City , too, so I went online to see what savings we would get if we put solar panels on the roof of any of the 3rd Street light rail stations. Assuming the station uses about $30 in electricity per month, has a flat roof, and has a southern exposure, the results are "shocking!" Check it out. No wonder small scale solar collectors are so hard to sell.
I was also wondering about Jackson's plan to reopen the shipyard and create jobs. The New York Times ran an article on 9/8/10 about shipyards closing due to military cutbacks titled Bracing for Cuts, Military Firms Shed Workers. I cut this from the article. " Northrop Grumman recently announced plans to close troubled shipyards as it considers spinning off its $6 billion shipbuilding business.

Northrop announced in late August that it would lay off 642 workers at its shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., by the end of the year. By 2013, it plans to close a shipyard near New Orleans that employs 4,700 people and shift the work to Pascagoula."

Now if Jackson wants to reopen the shipyard for cruise ships, don't we already have PIer 35? Obviously the military isn't a potential tenant.

I call on the media to do some fact checking on all the candidates.

  2. I'm glad the candidate are calling each other out on the lies, but in this instance Mr. Dewitt's rebuttal, that Chris Jackson hasn't really done much, while he had created a debate team, was pretty weak. Oh wow, a debate team... He's really showing off his strong credentials that 'earned' him the DCCC endorsement. These jokers are both wasting our time.

  3. Chris Jackson spoke of keeping teachers from being laid off but fails to mention that under his leadership 2010 summer school at CCSF was canceled.

  4. Chris Jackson is a joke. I am tired of his granpappy story that isn't factual. Chris is from the mission and should run in the part of town he lives in along with Eric Smith that lives in Alamo Square.

  5. Actually, Jackson currently lives in Bayview and Smith lives in Dogpatch.
