CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE:
Today’s Update will focus on the events of this past weekend’s 49ers v. Raiders football game at Candlestick Park.

SHOOTINGS:
On August 20th at 8:00 PM, Officers working the football game at Candlestick Park were approached in the parking lot by a witness who stated that there was a large fight in the RV section in lot S and that one of the parties involved had a gun.
Officers immediately responded and notified other units in the area who responded as well. As they approached, they observed the bleeding victim walking away from the scene. Officers quickly learned that he had been shot in the leg and grazed in the face by a bullet. Officers rendered aide at the scene and quickly arranged for the victims transport to SFGH, where he was listed in stable condition. The officers quickly located a crime scene which involved a vehicle that had bullet holes in its body, parked near a bus. This investigation is continuing. SFPD Case No. 110669362)

On August 20th at 9:00 PM, Officers responded to gate A of Candlestick Park regarding a shooting victim at Gate A (Jamestown / Harney). The victim, who had three gunshot wounds to his torso, was only able to tell the police that he drove his car for several minutes with his injury prior to stopping and seeking help. He was then immediately transported the SFGH.
Officers located the victim’s vehicle and secured it as evidence. The investigation of this incident is led by the Gang Task Force. (SFPD Case No. 110669497)

OTHER AUGUST 20th GAME DAY RELATED INCIDENTS:
At 10:45 AM, Officers patrolling the Candlestick parking lot noticed a car travelling at a high rate of speed and pulled it over at 650 Jamestown. The driver was shown via record check to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest stemming from various firearms charges. He was arrested and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 110119606)

At 6:10 PM, Officers responded to call of a fight in the lower area of section 13 inside the Candlestick Stadium. When they arrived, they learned that two suspected gang members began to argue over their various affiliations. When the fight turned physical, a witness tried to step in to break it up. One of the combatants turned on him and punched him several times in the face. This suspect was arrested for battery. All of the other individuals involved were identified and released from the scene. (SFPD Case No. 110668875)

At 6:30 PM, An officer was flagged down regarding a fight occurring in the concourse area of Candlestick Park. He observed a suspect assaulting an individual from another group with bystanders watching. The Officer tackled the suspect, removing him from the victim. By the time that the Officer had the suspect subdued, the victim had left the scene. The suspect was cited and ejected from the park. (SFPD Case No. 110669055)

At 7:00 PM, A victim was standing in line in the men’s restroom at Candlestick Park when he was suddenly hit from behind in the back of the head. The victim fell and lost consciousness, waking to the medics treating him for his injuries at 490 Jamestown. The medics had notified the Police of the incident. The victim was transported to and is being treated at SFGH. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD No. 110669291)

At 7:05 PM, Bicycle Officers responded to the lower level of section 13 in Candlestick Park regarding a fight. As soon as they arrived, a subject who appeared quite intoxicated began to yell, “Take their bikes!”. He then proceeded to grab one of the officer’s bike handlebars. The suspect
had slurred speech and an unsteady gate with a heavy odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He was arrested for being drunk in public. (SFPD Case No. 110669447)

At 7:10 PM, Officers observed an argument that was escalating into a physical altercation in the upper section 61 of Candlestick Park. They detained the main agitator of the group. When he was told he was being ejected from the park, he started to quickly walk down the stairway to get away from the officers. The officers pursued him and were able to apprehend and gain control of him after a brief struggle. He was cited and removed from the park. (SFPD Case No. 110669180)

At 7:20 PM, A victim was standing in a bathroom when he was suddenly grabbed by the neck and shoved violently into the wall next to a stall. The victim fell, hitting his head and lost consciousness. The suspect immediately fled the scene. The incident was brought to the attention of Officers by a game usher who told them there was some kind of problem in the bathroom outside of section upper reserve 54/56 of Candlestick Park. The bathroom was closed off as a crime scene and the victim was rendered medical aid and transported to SFGH. Several witnesses were located who were able to describe the suspect in detail. This incident is under investigation (SFPD Case No. 110669265)

At 7:30 PM, Officers were alerted by an usher to a physical altercation in the upper section 17 of Candlestick Park. An usher who had been speaking to her supervisor was suddenly punched in the face by a suspect with no provocation. The supervisor jumped on the suspect and held him until police arrived and promptly placed him under arrest. The suspect was booked on battery and drunk in public charges. (SFPD Case No. 110669259)

At 10 PM, Officers responded to Kaiser in South San Francisco regarding an assault that occurred earlier that evening at Candlestick Park, section 6. The victim had swelling to his face and a chipped tooth. He told the Officers that throughout the game, a suspect sitting behind him kept insulting him and his team. At one point the suspect slapped him across the head. He slapped his head again in the second quarter and reached around and slapped his face in the third. When the victim turned around to confront the suspect, he was immediately met with a series of punches to the face. A friend of the suspect’s who was sitting beside him, joined in punching the victim as well. This went on for about 20 seconds until Police arrived. He stated that the officers had taken both suspects into custody but that he had left prior to identifying himself to the Officers as the victim. This incident is still under investigation. At 8:10 Officers were busy, en masse, trying to break up a huge fight that had erupted in upper section 36, row 23 at Candlestick Park. Officers were busy pulling combatants apart as rival fans fought each other as others threw beer and food at the scene.
One of the officers was busy trying to separate two fans, one of whom was punching the other in the head. The officer jumped on the aggressor and attempted to hold him down to prevent him from striking another blow. As the officer was on the suspects back, pinning him to the ground, the suspect turned his head, covered the officer’s forearm with his mouth, and bit down as hard as he could. The Officer had to strike the suspect in the back several times as he commanded him to let go, yet the suspect refused. It took the assistance of another cop to finally get the suspect to stop biting the Officer that had pinned him. The suspect was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview Station numerous charges.
