As part of its ongoing Innovation Policy Series, QB3 is pleased to host Jackie Speier, JD, Congresswoman for California’s 12th Congressional District.

The Obama administration is pushing strongly that innovation be encouraged in the U.S. to enhance our economic competitiveness; but is there any substantive support in Washington for the President’s agenda? Join us in this discussion on better balancing the regulators’ fear of taking risks with the pressing need for new therapies for major chronic diseases.

Congresswoman Speier’s talk will start at 5:10 pm. A reception will follow from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Speaker bio: Jackie Speier (pronounced SPEAR) has lived her entire life inside California’s scenic 12th Congressional District, which she has represented in Congress since April 2008. She previously served the residents of the San Francisco Peninsula on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and in the California Assembly and Senate. Jackie was the first California legislator to give birth while in office and, during her time in Sacramento, authored more than 300 bills that were signed into law by both Republican and Democratic governors. These included the nation’s strongest financial privacy law and measures that expanded women’s access to reproductive health services, ended gender-based pricing at retail establishments and safeguarded children from hazardous products. Her law to improve collection of delinquent child support has resulted in tens of billions of dollars being recovered for single parents since enactment. She also led high-profile investigations of fraudulent and wasteful government spending which saved taxpayers many more millions of dollars. [Biography continues on Congresswoman Speier’s official website.]
