Sidewalk Trees and Sewer lines

I just noticed this week signs have gone up on all the trees along Palou St in the Bayview alerting property owners that they'll soon responsible for the trees' maintenance.  While those of us who live on side streets have always had this responsibility, it was only recently that the city decided to transfer maintenance responsibility of all trees on major roads like Palou to the adjacent property owner.  Read more at SFGate

In a related cost-saving move, the city will also no longer be taking responsibility if a sidewalk tree damages your sewer line.  Now that the tree is no longer the city's responsibility, neither is the damage that their roots cause to your sewer line
