Bayview library ready to open

I was one of the lucky few tonight to get a sneak peek at the new San Francisco Public Library's Bayview branch at 5075 Third Street at Revere. The outside of the building is a clad in a two-tone contemporary brick color reminiscent of the old red bricks that faced the Anna E Waden library. Inside, blonde wood shelves brimming with books ready for eager young minds are positioned throughout, with a central computer station and large, flexible open space in back. On the walls, wherever there are not bookshelves, there is stunning artwork from local Bayview artists Ron Saunders. In the heart of the building is an outdoor courtyard surrounded on the ground by wood and stone surrounded by a wrap-around bench for outdoor reading and large windows looking back into the interior of the building.

To help raise funds for the library, 250 engraved bricks from the former library are being sold at $50 each. To purchase your commemorative brick, visit the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library.
