McKinley Square Park Cleanup Day

Mark your calendars
A special volunteer day for 
Martin Luther King Service Weekend
Sunday January 15th, 10am-12noon
McKinley Square Hillside 
20th at San Bruno Ave. 
  • Clear weeds on plants planted in October
  • Improve trails
  • Remove fennel 
  • General clean up of garbage & debris
  • Planting new native plants
Special guests:
  • Liam O'Brien from SFButterFly, who will give a talk on the importance of native plants, and their support for native wildlife. 
  • D10 Supervisor Malia Cohen, who also joined us with the MLK Service Weekend at the creation of the 18th & San Bruno Ave Community Garden in 2010.     http://www.potreroview.net/feat10156.html
Lunch will be sponsored by Goat Hill Pizza.   Drinks by Chiotras Grocery

Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and gardening tools if they have them.  Otherwise we will supply.
 
All volunteers will get to go home with a few native plants for their back, side, and front yards.  Plants that promote native wildlife for the hillside help in home gardens too!

 2. Sustainable gardening meeting up. Every 2nd Sunday of the month.
Sept 11th,  10am, on McKinley Square Hillside
Removing invasive weeds and tending to trails & native/sustainable plants planted last January.


3. McKinley Square Community Association board & elections meeting
Sept 14th,   6:30pm
Downtown High School, 793 Vermont.
Meeting to talk about upcoming fall planting, and elections for volunteer board for the McKinley Square Community Association.
Board is made up of volunteers, working on improving the McKinley Square Community through  improved safety, traffic calming, grants, native / sustainable planting, improved trails, public art.  If this sounds like something you are interested in, or if you have alternative ideas of improvements, all are encouraged to join our volunteer board.
Although the board is all volunteers, elections, and an open democratic process are important and ensures the volunteer board is accountable, representing the community.

Meeting Reminder: McKinley Square Community Design

Please join Recreation & Parks for the first of a series of public meetings to solicit input and assess community needs for both short-term and long-term improvements benefiting McKinley Square Park. All are welcome - this is your opportunity to create a safe and healthy park for generations to come.

Sponsored by the Recreation and Parks Department and San Francisco Parks Trust, with professional facilitation by John Merten from Studio Green.

Future of McKinley Square Park


A series of meetings talking specifically about the future of McKinley Square Park, community wishes, design, enhancements  and possible major changes.

The first meeting will be August 23rd, 6:30pm at Downtown High School. 

The meeting will be co-hosted by SF Parks Trust, and John Merten, Lanscape Architect of Studio Green.

This will be a first of a series of meetings, there will be 2 or 3 following, but these meetings shall be important, and outlining the path for McKinley Square for years to come. 

Please mark your calendars for this meeting.   More information, including flyers & mailings will be provided as time comes closer. 

In addition, this may be a good time to spread the word that MSCA board elections will be coming in early September.  All in the community are welcome, encouraged to participate, and be part of the board/volunteers for McKinley Square.   More information will be coming on this as well.
