Chef Eskender Brings Bayview to Macy's for Quesada Gardens

Chef Eskender's Mushroom Crostini
This afternoon, about forty people filled the seats at the Macy's Cellar Demonstration Kitchen to watch as Radio Africa and Kitchen's Eskender Aseged whipped up a delicious mushroom crostini. In the dish was Ethiopian Berbere, a spice mixture that gives dishes from his homeland a unique and delicious flavor.

The event was held in honor of Black History Month, with proceeds going to Bayview community-building organization Quesada Gardens Initiative.  It was great to spend the afternoon with so many familiar faces from the Bayview and to share some of the great food that is being prepared in our own neighborhood with folks in another part of the city.

It was especially great to see District 10 Supervisor Malia Cohen in the audience, learning a few things about cooking, and hopefully, like all of us, getting inspired to cook more at home.

Don't miss next week, when Chef Yvonne Hines of Yvonne's Southern Sweets visits the Cellar at Macy's to cook up a batch of her famous pralines (and yes, you will get to try them if you come).

Be sure to sign up in advance at https://macysyvonnesweets.eventbrite.com/ (again, all proceeds going to Quesada Gardens Initiative).  If you can't make it to the event, please consider going to quesadagardens.org and generously giving to QGI's hyper-local community-building efforts.
