Incidents of Interest:

On October 9th at 11:00 Pm, Officers responded to the unit block of Augusta regarding a burglary. They immediately detected a gas leak inside the residence. The gas leak was coming from the main gas pipe that was bent as if someone had tried to break it off. The pipe was located next to a small side window of the garage that had been smashed. PG&E were called to secure the leak as the Officers searched the home. No suspect was located. According to the owner, she had left the house secured in the morning and came home to the smell of gas. Nothing in the house appeared to be disturbed. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110815913)

On October 10th at noon, Officers responded to a call of a carjacking in the area of 25th and Wisconsin. When they arrived, they found the victim who was visibly shaken but uninjured. He told the Officers that he was sitting in his parked car while talking on the phone with his wife. The car was off, but the keys were in the ignition. Suddenly, a suspect wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood over his head approached the driver’s window and told the victim to “jump out”. Fearing that the suspect, who had both hands concealed in the front pocket of his sweatshirt, might have a weapon, the victim complied and got out of the car. The suspect jumped into the driver’s seat, started the car and drove off west on 25th and north on Wisconsin. Officers searched the area for the vehicle and suspect but could not locate them that afternoon. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 110816905)

On October 10th during swing shift briefing, Bayview Plainclothes Officers were presented with a flyer for an individual wanted on robbery charges. He was also on active parole. They recognized the suspect and even knew his exact address as well as the car he drove. They responded to his residence in the area of Revere and Ingalls and secured a perimeter around the house. The suspect’s car was in the driveway so chances were good that he was in the home. As some Officers took the front, others took the rear, knowing that those attempting to avoid police detection often escape from the rear of a residence.

After the Officers in the front knocked on the door, it was answered by a relative of the suspect who stated that he was not at home and even gave the Officers permission to search. Search they did, and sure enough, he was not there. Fortunately, a neighbor approached some of the Officers and reported a suspicious thump that just occurred on his roof. The Officers decided to have another look at the house and this time located a small open window in the bathroom that gave access to a rooftop ladder. The suspect, apparently not seeing an avenue of escape through the back, decided to climb up. It took the assistance of the Fire Department to get him back down, but down he came, under
arrest. He was booked at Bayview Station for the robbery warrant and parole violation. (SFPD Case No. 110818111)

The Officers ran the subject for a record check and found that he had an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property for which they placed him under arrest.
